CBS 42) AUSTIN You've heard of MySpace.com, what about MomsSpace.com? A local woman created the Web site to bring together moms so they could share the ups and downs of motherhood.
Austinite Shetal Patel is one busy mom. Sean, 4, and Sami, 2, keep her on her toes.
When she's not running after them, she's running her own Web site. Patel came up with the idea after the birth of her second son.
"When my second child turned 1-years-old, I was left with so many baby stuff that I thought could be valuable to other moms," Patel said.
So Patel launched MomsSpace.com and put her baby items up for grabs.
Since then, it has grown from a site where moms can buy or sell unwanted baby products, to a place where moms can exchange advice.
"You can share your expertise on breastfeeding to nanny services," Patel said. "There's a new site where I try to provide the latest news on parenting as well as health issues related to moms."
There's a Jobs For Moms section. The Resources For Moms section lists local businesses that are mom and kid friendly.
"I'm having all these moms getting together on the Web site, it's just giving me pure joy," Patel said.
One of the favorite places to visit on the Web site may just be the Baby of the Week section. Moms submit their little ones to be featured on the Web site.
"There are cute little babies in the baby gallery and you just want to look at them," Patel said.
The next step for MomsSpace.com would be to offer products from around the world. Patel just returned from a trip to India where she found some great new items.
Patel says she's not making any money from the Web site and it's free to become a member. She just doing something that gives her joy and hopefully make other moms happy too.
Patel is encouraging moms who have a unique product to sell to contact her and she'll consider putting it on the Web site.
